Paper Reading and Writing in Life Sciences, July 2 & 3, 2010
The Dept of
Biotechnology organized a two-day workshop on Research Paper
Reading and Writing Skills on July 2nd and 3rd 2010.Totally 30
participants – two from SRM Dental College, seven from Sri
Ramachandra Medical College, one from Dr. MGR University, Aarani
campus and 20 from Dr. MGR University, Maduravoyal. They were all
research scholars and they benefitted from attending the workshop.

The aim of the workshop
was to create awareness about Funded/Sponsored Research Schemes by
Government of India, Industry and other countries outside India.
The workshop organized an interaction with directors of funding
agencies such as the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of
Advanced Research, New Delhi, Euro-India Research Centre, National
Institute of Design and Gas Turbine Research Establishment.
numbered 52, mainly from Dr. MGR University, with two from ACS
Medical College and eight from Rajarajeshwari Engineering College.
The participants were given a CD containing formats for reserch
project application. The workshop encouraged the faculty to create
a research evironment in the campus. This program was coordinated
by the Dept. of Biotechnology, Dr.M.GR University.

Science TechFest, 17th & 18th Sept 2010
A Seminar in
Biotechnology and a series of competitions were organized for the
students of Biotechnology of Dr. MGR University on 17th and 18th
Sep 2010. The seminar was targeted at guiding students on their
final semester project. Apart from the talks there were various
competitions for the students to bring out their talent. Over 500
students from various Universities participated in the events.

Biotechnology symposium on Agriculture, Health Care and Environment
was organized by the department during Mar 26-28, 2009 and it was
inaugurated by Dr.D.Balasubramanian, Director- LV Prasad Eye
Institute, Hyderabad. The symposium was intended to give an update
of the recent trends in biotechnology and disseminate the knowledge
to the students.This inter collegiate event gives an opportunity
for the final year B.Tech/M.Tech students to make a paper/poster
presentation of their work. Apart from Students of Dr.M.G.R.
University, B.Tech students from SRM University, St.Peter’s
University and Sathyabamauniversity participated in the event and
won prizes in competitions.

A one day seminar on
“Mission swine flew” – A Swine flu awareness programme was
organized in Sep 2009. The aim of the seminar was to create
awareness to the students and general public about the symptoms,
cause and preventive measures of swine flu infection.
Dr. P. Gunasekaran, Dy.
Director, King Institute of Preventive Medicine, Chennai
inaugurated the seminar and delivered a lecture on “Symptoms of
H1N1 infection and methods for diagnosis” and Dr. Gerard Maria
Selvam, Prof and Head of Epidemiology, Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical
University delivered a talk about the Mechanism of H1N1 infection
and its prevention.

in Biotechnology was held from March 26-28th 2008 with CSIR
