HISTORY
The Department of
Mathematics came into existence purely as a service department when
Dr.M.G.R. Engineering College was started in 1988 – affiliated to
the University of Madras.
Subsequently in the
year 2003, when the college was upgraded into a Deemed University
by the UGC, the department of Mathematics was given an independent
status and was granted the permission to conduct a two-year
Post-Graduate Programme, M.Sc (Industrial Mathematics).
We are offering Ph.D
programmes in several areas both in pure and applied Mathematics.
MISSION
To inculcate the
students of Engineering & Technology for using their right
mathematical skills which in turn make them highly successful in
applying their knowledge of Engineering during their careers.
VISION
To produce resource
personnel, with the capability of, modeling Engineering problems,
mathematically and providing solutions, thereby contributing to the
betterment of life.
FUTURE PERSPECTIVES
We are going to start
new M.Phil programmes in the following areas.
Operations Research,
Stochastic processes, Industrial Mathematics.
We propose to establish
a Mathematical Modelling Laboratory consisting of computer systems
and softwares of advanced computing techniques, so that both the
students and the staff (E & T as well as H & S) develop their
skills of modelling and solving industry-oriented problems.
