Charles Dickens is one of the most famous writers in the history
of English Literature. His works of fiction are still as loved
and widely read as when they were first published. The enduring
popularity of his books is a testament to his literary genius,
inspiring the imagination of generations of readers. His
impressive body of work has earned him a high place in world
literature. February 7th, 2012 was the 200th
birth anniversary of Charles Dickens. In commemoration of his
200th birth year, the Literary Seminary of our
university is conducting international conference for the purpose of honoring this great writer and
bringing his work to the notice of the next generation.
Research Papers
are invited from the faculty, UG & PG students and Research
Scholars on the following topics:-
1. Humour in Dickens’ works
2. Dickens’ Satire
3. Realism in Dickens’ Novels
4. Autobiographical elements in Dickens’ works
5. Dickens’ writing as social criticism
6. Dickens’ episodical writing
7. Universal aspects in human relationships as reflected in
Dickens’ works
8.The Societal reflection in Dickens’ plays
9. Dickens and Science
10. Images in Dickens’ writing
11. Dickens’ Characterization
12. Relevance of Dickens’ writings to the present generation
13. Dickens’ world and modern society
14.Dickens’ portrayal of childhood
15.Children’s literature of Dickens
Guidelines
for the participants
1. The paper presenters can
choose any topic given above but they have to narrow down their
area of writing choosing two to three books of Dickens.
2. The papers should be
original.
3. The abstract not exceeding
300 words should be submitted by 16th July by email
to the address inccecd12@gmail.com
4. Detailed paper not exceeding
4 pages should be submitted by 14thAugust.
5. All abstracts and papers
should carry full name, contact number and address of the
author.
6. The font used should be Times
New Roman with font size: 16 for heading, 14 for subtitles and
12 for text.
7. Alignment – Justified, Margin
– 1 inch thick on all sides and line space – 1.5 inches thick
8. The paper should strictly
adhere to MLA style sheet.

Participants are requested to
register well in advance. The enclosed form may be used as
proforma for registration.

The registration fee may be paid
by DD drawn in favour of “Dr.M.G.R. Educational and
Research Institute” payable at Chennai. The
registration fee includes materials, refreshments and lunch.
