Garuda Grid Boot Camp for Engineering & Technology Applications

GARUDA is
a collaboration of scientific and technological researchers on a
nationwide grid comprising of computational nodes, mass storage
and scientific instruments. It provides an abstraction layer
above High Performance Computing System, facilitating
co-ordination and distributed sharing of resources across
different geographical locations and under multiple
administrative domains. GARUDA (funded by Department of
Information Technology, Govt. of India) aims to provide
e-Infrastructure for technological advances required to enable
data and compute intensive science for the 21st century. The
Operation Phase of GARUDA endeavors to provide a stable, robust
and efficient grid environment with guaranteed Quality of
Service for various applications.
Garuda
Boot Camp for potential Grid users was organized by Dept of
Computer Science and Engineering & Information Technology at C-DAC
Garuda HPC lab, Anna Block, Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research
Institute, University, Maduravoyal, Chennai on 6th & 7th
September 2012.
The aim
of this workshop is to demonstrate Garuda Grid to users by
briefing various middleware components, tools, services and
train the users with hands on session and establishing Grid &
application community network in various scientific and
engineering domains.
On the
first day of the workshop resources persons form C-DAC Bangalore
explained about the HPC & Grid concepts, Garuda Grid overview,
Grid security & Indian Grid certification Authority (IGCA), Grid
Access methods & Tools, Utility services, Application enablement
on grid, etc..
On the
second day, parallel programming sessions was conducted on
Messaging Passing Programming, the Floyd’s Algorithm, Matrix
vector Multiplication, Monte Carle Methods, Fast Fourier
Transform and Combinatorial Search.
