3.1 Promotion of Research and Facilities
3.1.1 The institution has a well defined Research promotion policy and the same is uploaded on the
institutional website
Response:
“Scientific temper is a way of life – an individual and social process of thinking and acting which uses a
scientific method which may include questioning, observing reality, testing, hypothesizing, analysing and
communicating” Jawaharlal Nehru in The Discovery of India.
Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute has a Vision to become a world leader in Research and
Innovation by developing the capabilities of faculty and students in identifying and solving challenges both
locally and globally. The Institute will develop effective collaborations across the nation to achieve this
vision.
Towards this Vision, the following objectives have been formulated: The Institute will
1.Create an aspirational pool of faculty and students who want to be involved in high-quality
research.
This will be done by inculcating a spirit of curiosity and experimentation in undergraduate and
postgraduate education. This will create a large pool of students with diverse ideas.
2. Enable mechanisms to nurture and empower researchers from this pool.
The Institute offers grants in aid for research and also for innovation based commercialisable projects.
Faculty are supported to apply for external grants and offer Consultancy services. Students and faculty are
given independence to start companies within the campus.
3. Introduce mechanisms for a performance-based funding model.
Faculty and student who have been successful in their research projects are identified and given
opportunities to develop further by establishing Centers of Excellence and incubation as a start-up or
Innovation Fellowship. Faculty who have published in journals are given monetary awards. FAculty who
have received funded projects are appreciated.
4. Promote University – Industry link with commercialization enablers
The Institute will develop an independent Incubator to facilitate Commercialization. The Institute is a
member of Confederation of Indian Industries, Indian Science and Technology Parks (STEP) and various
other industry organizations
5. Establish an effective and just Intellectual Property Framework
The Institute has an Intellectual Property Cell which facilitates the application for IP for products and
