college has bagged 5th and 4th Rank consequently for their participation in dental education to the society.
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering also achieved the certificate of appreciation for
three consecutive years (2018-2020) by IEEE for their persistent disposal of knowledge on energy
conservation. The apt intensity of eminence and a prestigious platform is all it entails to bring the
exceptional efforts taken by innovative leaders for inspiring the future education of the industry to their due
adulation. The service rendered to the underprivileged students by Dr. Rama Vaidyanathan from Dr. A.P.J
Abdul Kalam centre for excellence in innovation and entrepreneurship fetched her the mentors of change
by NITI- AYOG. Dr. Prithika from Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam centre for excellence in innovation and
entrepreneurship also worked towards enriching the nursing students of Chettinad Academy on the
importance of vaccination to the students and the public. Adding to the accolades, we also have Dr. Triveni
and Dr. Divakar who was recognized for their activities towards United Nation Sustainable Development.
Dr. MGRERI was also awarded by iGEN Green9 SDG conclave for its most active contributions.

3.6.4 Institutional social responsibility activities in the neighborhood community in terms of
education, environmental issues like Swachh Bharath, health and hygiene awareness, delivery of
free/ subsidized health care and socio economic development issues carried out by the students and
staff, including the amount of expenditure incurred during the last five years

Response:

Dr. M. G. R. Educational and Research Institute (Dr. M.G.R ERI) was founded in the year 1988, has taken
part various outreach and extension activities. Dr. M.G.R group of institutions an indigenous education
system, to fulfil educational aspirations of Indian people, specifically, under-privileged sections of society.
The institution has evolved a robust system of outreach activities in its courses/programmes to make
significant contributions. Dr. M.G.R ERI is situated near an under-developed, offering immense
opportunities for extension activities. Some initiatives in this regard are: sensitization of people on issues
related to health, sanitation, education, rights and duties, environment, government policies-schemes and
livelihood earning. Women’s empowerment, financial independence and helping to identify solutions for
local problems, are areas of outreach initiatives undertaken by Dr. MGR ERI. The University regularly
conducts events, workshops in neighbourhood areas by organizing plays/nukkad nataks, film screenings,
and discussions on contemporary social issues. These initiatives are integrated in many
programmes/courses and either taken at department/ centre level or through NSS/Outreach program of
university. Some initiatives are:

Livelihood skills – Dr. MGR ERI has been organizing workshops and short-term training courses for
home makers in Dr. MGR ERI’s neighbourhood, such as cutting & tailoring, etc. to make them self-
