5.1.4 The institution has an active international student cell
Response:
Dr. M.G.R Educational and Research Institute has an active International student cell which caters to the
needs of the foreign students from various countries. The University welcomes the International students
looking at a “great” India education experience. The Office of International admissions look after the
admission process of the Foreign students. The Foreign students have an option of choosing courses from
14 different faculties from our university. The students get to interact with each other and the diverse
environment serves as an opportunity to broaden the horizons for the exchange of different ideas.
The International Admissions Office, provides Pre-arrival information, Orientation program and Mentoring
Support
Pre Arrival Information: : Once selected, all foreign students are provided with an Admission
confirmation. Foreign students are provided with pre arrival information mainly through a student manual.
The foreign student manual, which is sent by mail, contains useful information about preparing for
studying at our university. The manual contains information about medical insurance, tuition fee payments,
visa requirements, etc.
Orientation Program : All international students go through an orientation program and get an idea about
our University. In the orientation programs, student life at the University, Visa and FFRO process,
Language sensitization and culture sensitization is provided. Major offices and their services in the
University are explained. At the end of the program, feedback relating to the orientation program is sought
from the students. A report detailing the orientation program is presented to all the members of the
International Student Cell.
Mentoring Support : Foreign students get mentoring while studying at Dr. MGR University. All the
students are mandatorily asked to come to the individual mentoring programs to discuss various issues
issued faced by them and celebrate their victories in the academic semesters gone by. The mentoring
activities include
1.Discuss and familiarize enrolled students regarding the compliance requirements of the University
and Government.
2.Monitoring the academic performances of the students by coordinating with mentors once every
year.
3.Monitoring the payment of fees for the academic program and other financial issues faced by them.
4.Support and assist with the integration of community and domestic students through social and
cultural adjustments.
5.The final mentoring support also discusses possible university help in joining our alumni network
and helping them in their future endeavors.
Other Support Service
Skill Enhancement and Projects – The University lays strong focus on enhancing value-added skills to
students. Hands-on skill training imparts confidence, competence and courage to face the real world. We
coordinate small and large projects through a “Magic Club” with which the ISS cell works to drive such
learning.
