1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Dr. M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute (Deemed to be University) was started in September 2003, having
the Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College, Chennai and the Thai Moogambigai Dental College & Hospital, Chennai
as its constituent colleges. Later the A.C.S. Medical College & Hospital, Chennai and the Raja Rajeswari
Medical College & Hospital, Bengaluru, were brought under its ambit. The University curriculum had been
prepared by a select group of faculty members of various departments, who have taken the following factors
into consideration before placing it for opinion and approval of the individual Boards of Studies. Learner
centric methods relevant to the individual class composition of students have been widely adopted across all the
faculties of the University. Individual, collaborative and interactive approaches modified to suit our local
environment are also at times adopted. Based on the POs, PSOs and COs, the evaluation system addresses the
qualitative approach to assessment. The quality of questions, the levels attained via Bloom’s Taxonomy, the
conduct of the examinations and the entire transparency of the evaluation system, identify our University as one
trying to sustain quality standards. Feedbacks are obtained from all the stakeholders - students, parents,
employers and alumni on a regular basis, whenever there is a syllabi or curriculum change, and also regularly at
the end of every Semester; sometimes also at times, in between the Semester. Apart from research being
conducted in the R&D Block research facilities exist in all the laboratories in the various campuses of Dental,
Medical, Engineering, Humanities & Sciences faculties, all being located within easy reach of one
another. During the last five years, a large number of good quality Web of Science / SCOPUS rated papers had
been published, in standard and reputed journals, including the UGC indicated ones. Several students have
shown much interest in sports and have also won laurels for the institute in Cricket, Bodybuilding etc. Energy
audits have been done more or less regularly, and a unit “ensave” has been established to monitor energy
savings. We did encourage a transgender person to graduate and is currently employed.

emerging areas and mutually rewarding university-societal interaction
Mission
Our mission is to make the institution as a resource centre for higher level teaching-learning processes,
in the fields of engineering, dental surgery, medicine, allied health sciences, humanities & sciences,
architecture, legal studies, management & education
We wish to impart relevant training and education to the youth to make them technically qualified,
practically competent and skilled human resources, to suit the needs and demands of the modern
industries, business or research and development organizations
We also wish to promote ethical values and encourage creative ideas among the younger generation
and thereby develop their entrepreneurial skills which will ultimately benefit the society and nation
