The University offers 151 academic programs with a wide spectrum of faculties: medical, dental, humanities
and sciences, engineering, and technology across the pan India through the conventional face-to-face and the
distant mode of education. In alignment with the State, Central Government policies and based on the
respective councils, the curriculum is designed and implemented to serve the national development and regional
knowledge enrichment.
The stakeholders' contribution to the design and development of the curriculum is a unique process for the
introduction, innovation, and revision of the syllabi. The programs and modification of the syllabus will be
implemented after detailed discussions in the respective Boards of Studies, the decisions taken are implemented
through the Faculty and Academic Council.
Being a deemed university, the academic freedom and flexibility provide vast scope for the introduction of
innovations in the curriculum to achieve the vision and mission of the University to achieve academic
excellence. To meet the demands of academia, industry, and society, the yearly feedback analysis helps by
removing the obsolesces and introducing the revamped syllabus, keeping our students more competent and
employable with the rapid developments in various fields of study, scientific and technological advancements.
The University has introduced market demanding courses like IoT, Cyber Security, Blockchain Technology,
Robotics and Automation, Data Science, Cyber Forensic and Innovation Entrepreneurship, and Venture
Development. Super-specialty programs M.Ch. Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, and Paediatric
surgeries are also offered. These are the Programmes are introduced in only a few Universities of the state.
The Open Elective Based Credit System, adopted in 2018, provides for flexibility by offering intra-
departmental and interdepartmental optional courses. For interdisciplinary basic and advanced knowledge each
semester, the students must opt for at least one course outside the Department to enhance interdisciplinary
synergy.
To impart the knowledge of human values to students, a compulsory core paper “Universal Human Values” has
been included in our curriculum. By studying an audit course “Disaster management at the Postgraduate level
the empathetic behavior of our students will be enlightened, and they will serve the society with a humanitarian
mind.
Teaching-learning and Evaluation
Faculty members at Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute are qualified and highly motivated. Out of
1072 full time faculty member 638 are holding Ph.D/DM/MCH/MS. Average teaching experience of our
faculty members are 10 years. While admitting students we are giving opportunities to socially and
economically backward students as per guidelines and 86% of the admission are done in that manner. There are
16941 students in the academic year 2020-21. Approximately one out of 9 students are other state and 15
students from other countries. The staff student ratio is around 1:16. Most of the staff members are well trained
to mentor the students for their holistic development. There are 1030 mentors and each mentor is not given
more than 16 students. Most of the faculty members are trained with high input teaching skills. Various
teaching methodologies are attempted by them. Experimental teaching is adopted in 60% of teaching. Most of
the medical programs follow the problem based and patient centric teaching. Slow learners are identified in the
earlier stage and given remedial classes. All the students are given opportunities to learn inter
disciplinary/faculty subjects.
