Rubber Skill Development Council

Rubber industry occupies a prominent place in the global economy and is one of the key engines of growth for the Indian economy. India’s rubber manufacturing industry consists of more than 6,000 manufacturing units and is highly labour intensive with around half million people currently employed in the manufacturing segment alone, natural rubber and synthetic rubber sub segment (or the production side) also employs another million people in the country. However, there is a significant mismatch between skills available and skills demand in the industry.

At present, there is an acute shortage of technically skilled manpower in the industry and is a major challenge in the productivity and growth of the sector. The trend in the industry is to recruit the fresher at the entry level jobs and train them on operating the machines for doing the basic necessities of the tasks to be performed. Provision of appropriate skills may thus be an important intervention to increase the productivity of this workforce.

There is a dire need to create a pool of skilled resources that are industry ready and up skill in-service professionals to sharpen the competitive edge of the industry. Considering the need of the sector, AIRIA(All India Rubber Industries Association) and ATMA(Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association) Collaboration with NSDC(National Skill Development Corporation) has set up Rubber Skill Development Council (RSDC), a Sector Skill Council focusing on skill development & training needs of the sector.
