B.Tech. Information Technology was approved by AICTE in the year 2001 affiliated under Anna University. The sanctioned strength in the year 2001 was 40 students and it was increased to 60 students in the year 2002. Then in 2003 the UGC recognized Dr. M.G.R University with an intake of 160 students. M.Tech IT was approved by UGC in the Year 2010.

Dr. Ferdin Joe started his lecture on the first day of the FDP with an introduction to Data Analytics. He explained the difference between data analysis and data analytics. On the second day, Mr. Nilesh delivered a knowledge packed speech on Industrial needs and gaps in Machine Learning. He discussed the evolution of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. He also explained about the types of Machine Learning with simple examples. On day 3, Mr. Senthil Kumar’s talk on IoT for Industry 4.0 was a highly motivational one, where he shared his journey of how he quit his job and went on to develop his own product ‘IOT for Healthcare’. Dr. Benson gave an enlightening speech on "Cyber Security Challenges for the future” on Day 4. He uncovered the top 7 security threats that has been in the cyber world in recent years and is highly predicted to increase in future. On the final day, Mr. Vishnu explained very patiently about what is software testing and the types of testing. He elaborated on the types of functional testing and non-functional testing.

The FDP was started by Dr. C. Uthayakumar who explained beautifully about the ‘Holistic approach to learning’ that includes human value system, life skills, handling emotions and living at harmony in all levels along with career growth. On day 2 Dr. D. Doreen Robin explained in detail about creating google classroom, adding participants, sharing video content, conducting assignments and scheduling google meets. She also gave a brief idea about BigBlueButton and Edmodo. Dr. Jeena Jacob spoke on Day 3. She started with explaining the basics of GitHub. She took on a step by step tour on How to create GitHub Classroom, creating a repository to post assignments for students, getting back their submitted work and automatic grading feature in GitHub for lab programs. On Day 4, Mr. Christalin Nelson provided a good insight on synchronous and asynchronous tools for e-learning. He made the audience interact with live polls, small quizzes that he conducted using Mentimeter and Nearpod. Dr. Balasubramanian handled the sessions on Moodle on Day 5, 6 & 7. He started with a talk on 'Introduction to Portable Server & Installation of Moodle in Portable Server’ on Day 5. He demonstrated with step by step instructions on how to install Laragon and Moodle. On Day 6, he explained the various navigation controls and processes of the Moodle system in detail. This enabled everyone to visualise the overall user interface design of Moodle and the various functionalities in it.On the final day he touched upon various features including user management, quiz creation, bulk importing questions, course creation, enrolling students for a particular course, making announcements, sharing video lectures, writing e-book, writing wiki where students can contribute, creating blueprint for lessons and lesson building, conducting workshops all within Moodle environment.

On the final day, Mr. Ahmed showed how a given problem of data science can be approached, automation can be taken care of with any type of available data and an AI tool can be made to work effectively with that.
