Introduction

The Department of Information Technology was started in the year 2001 and offers B.Tech, M.tech and PhD programs. In this era of digital world, the IT department offers an excellent atmosphere for students to learn and acquire the necessary skills as demanded by the industry.

The department is NBA accredited and is enriched with experienced faculty members, well equipped laboratories, department library and R&D facilities. Students and faculty members are a part of professional societies like IEEE, IETE, CSI, CISCO etc., in order to gain contemporary knowledge about the happenings in the industry. The Department has established strong links with industrial and academic experts, both within and outside the country. Besides high quality teaching, various webinars, FDPs, conferences, symposiums and workshops are organized frequently both in the national and international level.

Our department faculty members have a remarkable number of publications. Our enthusiastic students take up several real time projects each year. Also, the aspiring students are given international opportunities through student exchange programs, internships and summer training programs. Students those who graduated in our department are placed as system developers, architects, technical leaders and managers in many multi-national companies. Above all, the department of Information Technology strives for continuous improvement and setting a good example in the effective use of technology.

Welcome to the department of Information technology at Dr.M.G.R.Educational & Research Institute, Chennai. The department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by the Industry, society and the academia.

Department of Information Technology is one of the largest departments in Dr.M.G.R.Educational & Research Institute With nearly 15 faculty members and 350 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. The department’s graduate programs continue to draw from a very strong application pool. The Information Technology department was established in the year 2001. Sridhar Vembu Journal Club
The department has formed this Journal Club inspired by the founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation Mr. Sridhar Vembu. This club encourages Faculty and Student to think critically and come up with novel ideas. It is a platform to discuss and share research experiences among faculties, research scholars and students. Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yuva on February 8, 2023, strengthening our commitment to nurturing future leaders. The MGR YUVA Chapter at Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute is dedicated to empowering Indian youth to converge, lead, and co-create the nation’s future. As part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), we facilitate experiential learning through interactive sessions with industry experts.

Department Newsletter

The department newsletter published under the title 'TECH VOICE' is being circulated quarterly every year. The first issue was launched in March 2021.


TECHVOICE is edited and designed by the students. The newsletter includes articles related to latest trends in technology and other interesting IT facts. Articles are also contributed by the students. This motivates them to keep themselves updated as well as brings out the creativity in them. The newsletter also reflects the achievements made by students and faculty members in both co-curricular activities and extra-curricular activities. The publications made by them are also listed. Based on their active contribution to the department, 1-2 student and faculty member are appreciated and highlighted in the newsletter as 'Stars of the month'.
