Digital information is everywhere and valuable information is often vulnerable to compromise copying, modification, deletion or disclosure. Security of Computer Systems and networks is a major concern for organizations and individuals. The rapid expansion of internet provides global connectivity and cybercrime is also on the rise. Security professionals are highly sought after to provide protection of digital assets by securing networks and computer systems. The world of Information Security and Digital Forensics offers an exciting career possibility to join the frontline combating hackers who are compromising computers around the world.

The Department of CSE / IT is the forerunner to introduce PG course M.Tech in Information Security & Cyber Forensics in 2011. Having received an overwhelming response the Department has proposed to start Undergraduate programme in the same domain B.Tech Information Security & Digital Forensics in association with Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics CoEDF. http://www.coedf.org/ The goal of this course B.Tech Information Security and Digital Forensics is to prepare security professionals for data protections by taking preemptive measures against attacks and perform forensic investigation if security is breached. The laws are constantly evolving but technology is changing even faster. Cyber crime and warfare have now become a fact of life and the need for qualified computer security and digital forensics is growing exponentially.

There is a need of 1 million cyber security professionals by 2020 to combat terrorism in cyber space according to the Union Ministry of Information Technology. Higher Education in this domain is the start. Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and the Sector Skill Council (SSC) National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) is focusing on developing prioritized job roles in cyber security and creating a master training programme. and also intends to fund a scholarship for women to undertake the cyber security certification.

NASSCOM has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Symantec to develop a pool of certified cyber security professionals.


The National Security Council Secretariat has planned to promote public-private partnership to strengthen cyber-security and build an entire ecosystem by setting up a permanent joint working group. R&D of indigenous cyber security products and solutions are carried to combat cyber terrorism.
