A Roadmap for the Future – VISION 2030
Institutions that have stood the test of time with strong core value and core objectives must plan their strategies and practices to adapt a changing world. It is therefore important to define the core ideology of Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute in the context of Indian techno-economical aspirations before we can discuss the road map to the future.

VISION
To steer the University towards excellence in Higher Education of global standards and achieving a status of being one among the best Universities in the country through high level knowledge delivery, knowledge creation and knowledge application in an ambience of cooperation between all stake holders.
MISSION
The University strives to achieve its Vision with the following objectives:

Our University has chosen the Entrepreneurial Mission to be the over-riding mission of the University. "Our objective is to create Job Creators and not Job Seekers”. This mission can be achieved by stimulating the Innovative mindset and nurturing entrepreneurship in new generation.
QUALITY POLICY
We are committed to continually improve the effectiveness of our Quality Management System and impart Technological competence and inculcate Dignity, Discipline and Humaneness to the Administrators, Faculty and Students of the University.
Methodology adapted for developing the Vision Document:
Analysis of the University to examine the resources, liabilities, capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses. The core competencies which highlight our unique strengths are to be identified.
Examination of the Environment: The current trends in the educational environment are analyzed to identify exciting opportunities to pursue.
Interaction with all stakeholders such as the recruiting Businesses and Industries, Institutes of higher learning, Government and the society to find out if our strategy will satisfies them.
Understanding the challengefrom Competitors done to find out how we compare with our competitors and to identify our uniqueness and to realize our weakness and strength.

OPPORTUNITY
The University has sufficient infrastructure and location, comparable to other Institutes
Excellent opportunity to train students from non-English medium or 1st generation engineers and economically backward areas
Proximity to Ambattur Industrial Estate and automotive and electronic industries
Chennai has Very Good Medical and Dental Institutions since Chennai is considered as an excellent health and education destination

Frequent changes in Statutory Body rules and regulations
Lack of thought on modernizing the approach to education
Lack of recruitment of students from AIEEE and other comparative mechanisms

ADMINISTRATION
To develop high standards for quality Faculty Member recruitment from Industry and Academia
Mandatory Teaching Foundation programs developed in partnership with Societies and other comparable organizations
Mandatory corporate internship program for faculty members
Providing fellowships and other support for Best Academicians and High Ranking Students
Zero tolerance for unethical practices
Develop Standardized procedures for every important activity
More financial support for faculty members to travel for national and international conferences
At present there are a total of around 750 teachers and 8500 students. We wish to increase the total ratio of Ph.D. faculty to 80%. The current faculty members without Ph.D. or higher degrees such as D.Litt. or D.M. will be encouraged / urged to obtain further qualification.
The number of post doctoral fellows and research associates who will be involved in full time research to at least 750.
At present we have about 7500 students enrolled in UG programs, 700 in PG and 260 in Ph.D. programs. By 2030 we wish to have atleast 10,000 UG, 4000 PG and 500 Ph.D students. Atleast 2000 students per year will be trained in various vocational training and outreach programs. Corresponding investments for infrastructure will be made.
The new Nayapakkam Campus will be developed as an Incubation Centre and Techno-park for alumni and outside Industry by 2030. An Investment of 350 crores will be ear marked
The involvement of Industry will be strengthened by appointing Adjunct Faculty in each Department.
Developing the existing University Publishing House to publish at par with international quality
In tune with the national mission of Digital India, many of the processes in the University to be digitized for making it a paperless process.
25% of Staff and Students should utilize international collaborations.
Faculty of Health Sciences to develop the best Hospital Service and contribute to higher share of the University Revenue.
Budget outlay of 900 crores in the next 15 years will be fed into augmenting existing Faculties, developing new Faculties and interdepartmental Research Centres, Techno-Park and other activities listed above.

Curriculum Development and Academic Audit Committee of the highest standard to function to ensure the high quality standards.

To increase international students from nearby SAARC, Arab and African Countries.
Generous scholarships for academic brilliance.
Funds allotted for Innovative ideas to be increased.
Student-centric teaching methods like PBL, CBL and virtual class rooms to be developed to encourage faculty excellence and collaboration.
Encourage faculty members to develop innovative teaching material and help them market it through MOOC.
International collaborations for developing new courses and twinning programs.
Society outreach programs specific to local environment to be strengthened.
RESEARCH
Research Centers to be developed to focus on specific research areas in all Faculties.
Commercialization and translational research to be given highest priority.

Execution is key to the any strategic plan. These programs will be implemented to ensure that we steer the University to the next stage of growth and towards a global presence. Continuous monitoring and introspection combined with Self assessment every six months will ensure we are on the right track.
