Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute has been given an Award of Excellence for "Outstanding Commitment to Knowledge Force Development” by STEP (Standardized Test of English Proficiency), an English language training and certification program launched by The Hindu Group.

Forty two faculty of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute from the Faculty of Science and Engineering have completed the Step for Teaching Professionals program. This program has a course structure of 20 online hours and two contact sessions of 6 hours. Faculty are trained in English proficiency as well as teaching methodology to ensure that class room student engagement is enhanced.

This coaching was sponsored by Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute under the MGR100 Centenary Celebrations. These faulty now have STEP English proficiency level more than 7 which is equivalent to upper intermediate. Six of the faculty have a STEP Score > 9, which is equivalent to Advanced level.
