The Department of CSE/IT organized an awareness program on "Drug Free India" on 19th February 2019 in association with AICTE to create alertness and awareness about the harmful effects of drug amongst the youngsters. The guest of the campaign was Mr. John Sundhar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Maduravoyal and Dr.Mubeen Taj, Head, Department of psychiatry, A.C.S. Medical College, Chennai. The event started with Dr.S.Geetha, HOD CSE/IT giving welcome address. It is then followed by the inaugural address of Dr.P.Kalidoss, Additional Registrar. He started his lecture by deliberating about the statistics of drug addicts across India for the past few years and also stated that the government participation is less when compared to the public.

Dr.Mubeen Taj shared her wise words of wisdom. She pointed out the causes for the Drug Addiction in adolescent. They include curiosity, boredom, experimentation, to escape from psychological pain and peer pressure. She concluded her lecture by uttering the golden maxim "learn to say no for the first time and every time".

Later Mr.John Sundhar expressed his experience and thoughts. He captivated the student s attention with his enthusiastic words. He motivated the students to mould themselves for their better future. It is alarming, he said, to see so many youngsters indulging in the substance abuse. He suggested them to keep their body as a holy . He wrapped up this session by explicating about the bitter consequences of Drug addiction on society.

The session was very much interactive and thought provoking. Students expressed their deep sense of gratitude for enlightening them. Finally the event had come to an end by playing the video of "Gurudev Sri Ravi Shankar" in which he enlisted the three things to get over addiction. Those are Fear of disease, greedy nature and love for someone. He advised to build a team against Drugs in every college. The session was winded up by taking the oath for Drug free India-"NO DRUGS, NOT FOR ME -NOT FOR OTHERS".
